Anti-diarrheal activity of methanolic extract of Tephrosia purpurea.
Tephrosia purpurea, (Syn: Galega purpurea, Linn.; Family: Fabaceae) is locally known as Bansa (Punjabi), Sarphunka (Hindi) and Jangli kulthi (Sindhi). It grows wild throughout Indo-Pak-Bangla Desh subcontinent on hard and stony grounds (1-3). It is branched and sub-erect herbaceous perennial plant. The plants are propagated through seeds (4, 5). Phytochemical investigations revealed the presenc...
متن کاملAntioxidant Activity of Fraction of Tephrosia purpurea Linn
The ethanol extract of Tephrosia purpurea Linn. (Family: Leguminosae) was found to significantly inhibit the carbon tetrachloride-induced lipid peroxidation in vivo and superoxide generation in vivo. The ethyl acetate fraction of the same extract was studied for free radical scavenging and antilipid peroxidation activity. The IC 50 values in both of these in vitro assays were found to be signif...
متن کاملAntihepatotoxic Activity of Eclipta Alba, Tephrosia Purpurea and Boerhaavia Diffusa
Alcoholic and chloroform extracts of E. albaT. purpurea and B. diffusa were screened for antihepatotoxic activity. The extracts were given after the liver was damaged with CCl4. Liver function was assessed based on liver to boy weight ratio, pentobarbitone sleep time, serum levels of transaminase (SGPT, SGOT), alkaline phosphatase (SALP) and bilirubin. Alcoholic extract of E. alba was found to ...
متن کاملPharmacognostical Standardization of Tephrosia purpurea Pers Root
Wild Indigo or Purple Tephrosia or fish poison occurs throughout the Indian subcontinent. It is widely used in the treatment of inflammation, diabetes, rheumatism, asthma, diarrhoea and many other ailments. But so far the pharmacognostic standardization has not been reported for its proper identification. Hence the present study is a pharmacognosy work carried out for the root part. This may he...
متن کاملRare prenylated flavonoids from Tephrosia purpurea.
Chemical investigations of aerial parts of Tephrosia purpurea yielded the rare prenylated flavonoids, tephropurpulin A (1) and isoglabratephrin (2), in addition to a previously identified flavonoid, glabratephrin (3). Structures were established by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, as well as by HR-MS analysis; for compounds 2 and 3, structures were confirmed by X-ray analysis.
